GCC postal heads’ meeting discusses key common issues
November 23, 2009: The GCC postal corporations’ meeting held recently in Muscat, Oman, discussed several critical issues facing the postal sector and underlined to the need for greater cooperation among GCC postal organizations.
The members discussed issues like participation in international exhibitions under the banner of GCC Postal Group, centralizing the procurement process and restructuring the organizing of stamp exhibitions in GCC countries.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Arab League and different postal organizations from GCC countries.
The Emirates Post delegation consisted of Salem Al Shaya, Assistant CEO, Emirates Post and Khalid Al Doukhi from the International Relations section.
Salem Al Shaya said : “Emirates Post has always strived to boost cooperation among the different postal organizations in the GCC. This meeting once again enabled us to review common projects and set time-lines for their completion. The meeting served to highlight the common objectives and goals of GCC posts.”
Alongside the meeting, Oman Post organised in cooperation with the Arab League the 15 th GCC Stamp Exhibition in Muscat from 15 - 19 November 2009 at Quram City Centre. The Stamp Exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Mohammed Bin Ali Al Wahaibi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunication, Oman. The inauguration ceremony attended by the Director and Deputy Directors of the Oman Post along with postal officials from the GCC countries.
Only philatelists and postal administrations of the GCC countries were invited to participate. The President of the Jury was Mr. Waleed Saif Al-Mashari of Kuwait and two Jury members Mr. Hatem Al Attar and Mr. Issa Ramadhan Al Zadjali were from Oman.
The exhibition attracted many visitors. The postal administrations’ and dealers’ booths were crowded and busy most of the time. Dealers from Germany and UK participated in the show along with local and GCC dealers.
