Emirates Post issues stamps on FIFA Club World Cup – Abu Dhabi 2009

December 24, 2009: Emirates Post has issued special stamps to mark the hosting of the FIFA Club World Cup which was played in Abu Dhabi from December 9 to 19, 2009.
The special commemorative stamps, issued in denominations of AED 1 and AED 5, are available in all post offices in the UAE. In addition, stamp collectors can obtain souvenir sheets and first day covers from the following post offices: Abu Dhabi Central Post Office, Deira Main Post Office and Central Post Office Karama, Dubai.
“The FIFA Club World Cup stamps will raise the status of the UAE on the sports and tourism map of the world. We are sure that they will also contribute to boost efforts to develop football locally and internationally,” said Ibrahim Bin Karam, CEO, Emirates Post.
“Emirates Post is proud to issue these stamps which will act as ambassadors of the progress and successes of the UAE. They will also strengthen the UAE’s position as the host of great sporting events, including the recently held Formula1 races in Abu Dhabi.”
The FIFA Club World Cup is one of the most important football tournaments in the world. It gave the UAE youth an opportunity to acquire experience in hosting and organizing world championships. It highlighted the status of Abu Dhabi on the world sports and tourism map. This event will enhance efforts to develop football in the region.
Seven of the world’s top football clubs participated in the tournament representing all continents, and the championship created an atmosphere of strong passion and competition. Local football fans got to enjoy some wonderful football matches.
